Westchester Insurance of Grand Prairie, TX, is leading a charity drive to assist the area’s elderly and disabled residents by providing home-delivered nutritious meals to those who are homebound through Meals On Wheels of Tarrant County. The initiative is part of the insurance agency’s long-term ‘Agents of Change’ movement, a robust community involvement program which provides local charities, families and individuals with desperately needed support and fundraising. Donations to Meals On Wheels may be made at: https://secure.acceptiva.com/?cst=009264.
Meals On Wheels is a nonprofit organization which has been serving area residents in need for over 40 years, by offering nutritious meals, professional case management and other items and services to older adults, people with disabilities and others who are homebound. Most clients can no longer remain in their homes without some sort of assistance, but have no need or desire to live in a nursing home. 5,000 dedicated Meals On Wheels volunteers deliver two meals a day to nearly 4,600 county residents, as well as providing blankets, fans, groceries, medical equipment, pet food and other essentials, allowing clients to retain their dignity and independence. More importantly, they show concern, love and compassion on a daily basis to those who may otherwise feel severely isolated.
“We are so grateful for all Meals On Wheels does for the seniors in our community, said Dave Phillips, owner of Westchester Insurance. “In a recent study, Texas ranked fourth highest in the number of seniors going to bed hungry. That is unacceptable – period. We simply must do better for these good people who have spent their lives caring for their homes, their families, and this community.”
Social media and an email awareness campaign are being utilized to promote the campaign, while a full page of the agency’s community magazine, which is delivered to thousands of households in Grand Prairie and surrounding communities every month, has been dedicated to featuring the cause. The electronic version of Our Hometown magazine, as well as its archives, may be viewed at: http://www.westchesterinsuranceteam.com/Our-Hometown-Magazine_39.
The caring folks at Westchester Insurance have pledged to contribute $10 to Meals On Wheels for each person recommended to them for an insurance quotation, with no purchase necessary, making it so very easy for everyone in the community to pitch in and help.
